20/07/2010 - Interview with club legend Eric Rirsch
This season Plaistow Fc Website has decided to take the time to find out more about the clubs players, staff and even some of the Legends. Last week we brought you the first interview with the new manager Marc Hobden and this week we bring you an exclusive interview with ex player, ex manager and all round plaistow club man Eric Rirsch.
This man has been part of the Stow for a long time and so it was only fitting that we get to know him abit more and see what really makes this man tick.
PFCW- Hi Eric thanks for joining us for this interview.
Eric- No problem always willing to give some time to the website.
PFCW- So Eric you let us know alittle about yourself.
Eric- Well as everyone is probably aware I currently live in Billingshurst, though I prefer to spend lots of my time in Plaistow and Brighton. I was born in Watford but moved down this way years and years ago. Im a big Arsenal fan and I also a big fan of counting crows. I'm just normal bloke that likes a pint and to watch the footy.
PFCW- All good qualities. So Eric you have been a part of the Plaistow set for a number of years now you must have alot of memories about the club. When did you first play for the Stow?
Eric- Wow that was a long time ago now. Let me think. That must of been 1990 I Think. We were away against Lodsworth and it was a poor game. 0-0 I think the final score was, I played right back or somewhere at the back.
PFCW- How did the season go that year?
Eric- I can't remember, we prob didn't do to great.
PFCW- What would you say is you best Stow memory then, there must have been a few over the years?
Eric- Yes there has been a few good memories. The cup final stands out from a few seasons ago but I would have to say that the two Ireland tours were great. The reception we got both times was great and everyone had a good laugh. We had good team spirit everyone especially the plaistow lads from the minute we got on the plane gave a good account of the club.
PFCW- Yes the Ireland tour was a good laugh. Now Eric you have been manager three times we believe making you a very important man within the plaistow set up. You have seen it from both sides playing and managing. What were you thoughts on your last time as manager and would you give the new man in charge any words of wisdom?
Eric- Well the last time I was manager we got relegated from division 3. What I would say is that with more time I think we might have escaped relegation. We started to pick some results up towards the end. We got a couple of draws and then we came up against a team who put out their first team. Everyone knows who that team was, we beat them 5-1 in the home game so something was very strange in the return game when we lost. I think if the club had given me more time I could have turned things around but that wasnt to be lol. As for a few words for the new manager I would just say don't forget to have fun and good luck.
PFCW- How do think this season we go then what do you think of Plaistows chances?
Eric- I watched the summer 5aside competition we entered and I thought we played really well in periods. We used a couple of new players and they were young and played well so hopefully that will help in the season. I think we have the players to go back up so its promotion for me this year.
PFCW- Lastly. As you have been around the club for a number of years who is the best player you have ever played with or watch take the field at plaistow?
Eric- There has been many good players over the years. We have had teams where we have only had one or two real stars but then we have had teams that five or six players that could play a better standard. I think a player who really stood out for me was Dean Clayton. He played on the left wing and had a big engine. He would be up and down that line all day and never stopped. It was very surprising as he smoked heavily.
PFCW- I think thats it thanks Eric. Cheers again for taking part.
Eric- No problem.
