19/04/2010 - Great Comeback To Earn Point

Plaistow recorded their second draw in a row on Saturday, this time away to Horsham Trinity Res.

The Stow more than matched their opponents in the first half on a rock hard pitch in Horsham Park. Both teams played the ball around well but it was Trinity who struck first as their striker out-muscled Sadecki at right back and fired in past Thompson. It had been urged that Plaistow continued on from last week in getting the ball down and getting the ball to do the work. When they did manage to get the ball on the deck they carved open the Trinity defence but could just not find the end product. Against the run of play Trinity hit the Stow on the counter attack and when it looked as Light could just clear the ball he unfortunately slipped and let in the striker for 2-0. Other than that moment, Adam Light had a tidy game considering he had been playing through with an injured hamstring.

Even though Plaistow entered the second half 2-0 down they still believed that they were not out of the contest and through Brazier and Marc Hobden they started to win the battle over the home team's midfield. Both players had another good game together after coming out on top after last weeks match. Midway through the half and along came the introduction of Paul Clarke into the centre of midfield. M. Hobden dropped into the right back slot - in which he did equally as well. Clarke from the outset terrorised the opposition with attacks and it was from his corner that Plaistow got back into the game through a Brazier header.

With the score now at 2-1, Trinity were well and truly on the back foot. The partnership of Gilling and Hazelwood up front gave the defence a torrid time as Gilling would drop back to look for the ball and Hazelwood continually ran at the defence, head down and charging like a bull at a red rag! From another Clarke corner Plaistow had the ball in the net, but this time the goal was disallowed - for a reason not really clear either?! Literally seconds after Hazelwood grabbed the equaliser when he got the ball to feet, turned and charged at the defence. He beat a couple of defenders and with looking like he was going no-where, turned and lobbed the ball over the keeper from an angle! Comeback completed, though neither side could find the winner in the last few minutes. Though a great block from Thompson at the end denied Trinity from making it 3-2.

A great performance from Plaistow saw them not give up when they were 2-0 down. Further from this, everyone played well for each other and the lads more than deserved the draw. One final game left to go with another away fixture this time at Forest.
