21/03/2010 - Plaistow So Close With Upset
With the previous news of Plaistow fielding a cracking squad for Saturday's game with Rusper, everyone was expecting Boss Rogers to field a full strength team. When it came to 1pm on Saturday afternoon Plaistow didn't even have 11 players to pick from.
At 2.55pm the home side kicked off with 9 players and Chris Brazier taking the captains role as Sam Gilling was away. Finally a 10th man turned up in the mould of Ben Moser who slotted into the midfield next to Brazier. Plaistow held their own and even attacked the Rusper goal in spells through the first half but the away sides extra man was always going to make it difficult for the Stow to get out of their half. At the break Plaistow were 2-0 down.
Midway through the second half and Plaistow got themselves onto the scoresheet with Marc Hobden notching his first of the season after some sloppy defending from Rusper. Plaistow with their 10 men worked well to get themselves back into the game and went in search of an equaliser but against the run of play Rusper snatched a third and all looked to be over for the game. With about 25mins to go Pierre Hazelwood turned up and made a full team for the Blue and Whites. In the space of 5 mins Hazelwood recieved the ball from Brazier and he took the ball on a few yards and rifled in the ball from a near 25 yards out to make the scoreline now 3-2. Rusper were on the back foot for the rest of the game as Plaistow searched for the 3rd equaliser but unfortunately it never came.
If Plaistow had been able to start the match with 11 players then there could have been a different result here as everyone dug in and showed 100% commitment. BUT there were a couple of people who massively let down the club on Saturday and showed no commitment to the team whatsoever!
On a special mention, had this been a different day then Chris Brazier would have taken the man of the match accolade all on his own, but for over an hour 10 men battled their hearts out on that pitch so they all take the man of the match award!
