26/10/2009 - Goal Shy Plaistow Lose Again

Another week and another game where Plaistow struggled to find the net.

Wisborough Green did well to get their two goals and their win but Plaistow really should have had a share of the spoils at the very least. Plaistow were missing five key players for this weekend's match and at 5.30 pm on Friday night had only nine players on the team sheet. Some top notch persuading from management to get a couple of players to play through injuries paid off and The Stow scraped a bare eleven.

Plaistow started the brightest in the first half but failed to convert their early chances and the score remained square. Half way through the first half Wisborough Green were awarded a freekick which was rifled into the top corner. Greaves had felled the opponent in an area which he thought and many others thought wouldn't be of much threat to the goal but were proved wrong. The home side had been rocked enough that their opponents grabbed a quick second.

The second half was much about Plaistow trying to find goals to get back into the game but it wasn't to be their day in front of the net. Every player gave a good account of themselves, even with Dan Hobden rolling back the years by beating players for fun and putting in killer passes Plaistow struggled to find the finished product. Tom Payne debutised in goal for the missing Thompson, made some good saves to keep Wisborough out. Other notable performances came from Wooldridge who continued to play on with blood down his face and Russ Wescott played his best match of the season in centre of defence.

If Plaistow are to get their season going, then they desperately need to find goals from somewhere. Back to the drawing board for the boys in the blue and white.
